Zhou Guan-Yin was amazing! Both of us are the same age, and yet are lives are so different apart from the fact that she's a muggle. Because Singapore is such a small island, she lives in a flat like most Singaporeans do with her four person family consisting of her dad, mum, older brother, and herself. She also has a maid that's just like a family friend. In school, it's required to learn English AND Chinese. Singapore is also very close to another country: Malaysia. So close, her family visits the country every Saturday to take piano lessons there with her brother. They also have a weekend home there so they can relax after a long day of learning.
Her diet involves more tropical and exotic things than Britain. Because of Singapore's location, the cuisine includes Malaysian, Thai, Indonisian, and Indian. Spicey food doesn't scare Guan-Yin; curry is often eaten for dinner. While their country has bananas, mangoes, durian, guava, starfruit, jackfruit, etc, we have apples and grapes. Rice is a must in every meal.
Singapore has a train system like the Underground called a MRT, or Mass Rapid Transit, so only her father knows how to drive. It covers the whole country. You could travel across Singapore and back in one day! The station nearest her home is at the mall, a few minutes walk for her. Talk about convenience!
When she wants to do something fun or special, she goes to a waterpark called Sentosa. Her outdoor activities include playing around at the East Coast Park as well. She loves running and biking with her family.
When it comes down to the basics, she's just like most of us. She breathes, eats, and sleeps and yet, she is so different and diverse because of her location. It's the beauty of mother nature that gives us our unique diversities. Zhou Guan-Yin wishes all of us at Hogwarts the best.
Foreign Languages: [in-progress] "Memorize how to count to 50 in a different language, present the memorized numbers in your head and on a numeric number line."

[OOC: I'm having trouble making a numberline. Do I have to? It's not that easy doing it on a comp and typing out numbers all the way to 50 is mind-numbing]
Instrumental: [complete] "Research the instrument you are planning to play."
---
Violins are four-stringed instruments played with a bow. Each string is tuned a perfect fifth apart from each other. This instrument is the highest tuned out of all the stringed instruments in the violin family. Some violins are also called a fiddle, no matter what kind of music the musician is performing on it.
The first real violin was invented in the 16th century in Italy by Andrew Amati. It was requested by the Medici family that a instrument be invented, one that would appeal to street musicians and nobility alike. It is quite apparent that his task was a success. The French King Charles IX ordered a whole orchestra to be made.
Several popular lutiers, or violin makers, are Amati, Guarneri family, Stradivarius, and Strainer. Violins made during the "Golden Age", especially Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù are still being sought out by collectors and performers alike.
Over the years, several things about the violin have changed. In the 18th century, the length and angle of the violin's neck have been changed. The bass bar is heavier. Now a days, the strings are made of different metals, not sheep guts. Violin sizes range from 1/32 to 4/4.

"Research a famous band group to its origin."
I considered doing the Weird Sisters, but they're so popular in the
UK and such. The Fray are a great group and are well-known in the
States, so I guess they will be the subject of my pre-assignment.
---
The Fray, a pop rock foursome, started in Denver, Colorado, USA. It
was started by vocalist/pianist Isaac Slade and guitarist/vocalist Joe
King in 2002. They're melodic songs caught the attention of former
bandmates of Slades, drummer Ben Wysocki and guitarist Dave Welsh,
making the Fray a full package. All of the band members had previous
musical experience:
King played piano ever since he was a young
chap and often competed in competitions. In junior high (the equivilant
of secondary school), he dropped piano all together to learn guitar and
to be "cool" and fit in. Slade started singing at the age of eight, but
discovered piano when he was eleven due to temporary voice problems. A
year later, he began singing again and continued piano. At the mere age
of sixteen, he took up guitar and wrote his first song. Wysocki took
piano against his will, taking his drum lessons in the sixth
grade. Welsh grew up in a musical household, and struggled with piano
and saxophone until discovering the guitar at age 12. Jokes about
the Fray members' tendency to battle it out over song composition led
to the proposition of "The Fray," and the name stuck. With the help of
their amazing songwriting skills, the Fray's fame rised within a year:
starting out as no-namers getting gigs to an amazing band touring with
legendary geek rockers, Weezer. Rock on, the Fray, Rock on.
(OOC: I am NOT a fan of The Fray)

Tomorrow....I'm exhausted...
I know I only signed up for three electives, but I couldn't help but do my best to get some extra credit. Foreign Language and Instrumental are easy anyways. Chinese and Music are my second and third languages.

| Classes have been the usual around Hogwarts...Nothing much has changed in this centuries old school over the past six years when it comes to the education part of it...But then again, Harry brings quite a bit of excitement each year.
As usual, we have a new DADA teacher this year, Professor Alair. His brain is brimming with knowledge of the dark arts and how to protect ourselves against it but his appearance is quite the contrary. I wonder if he even OWNS a mirror x.x
I'm starting to hate hearing the song on my site...It reminds me of him...I'll change it to "Butterflies" or "Move Along" when I have time....
Keep it lovely, Cho Chang

| "Ohc" is not happy, especially with "Ekana".
"Ekana" can be so airheaded, superficial, shallow, self-centered...
ANYWAYS
I have decided that out of A.(Muggle Cheerleading and Gymnastics),D. (Muggle Theatrical), and E. (Muggle Choral), I want to join E.
Cheerleading and Gymnastics aren't me; I'm determined to be the one
cheered for, not cheering. Theatrical...eeeeeh...It kind of comes
naturally to me, but singing...It's like my life.
Still upset,
Cho <3

| Balancing homework, Ravenclaw seeker try-outs [slash] practice, and
training Akane is tiring. I'm pooped. All I need to say is this: Akane
sweety, grip the broom handle tight enough that you won't fall off but not so tight that you can't let go fast enough to catch the quaffle. And the quaffle isn't going to bite, dear. Just CHASE and CATCH it. =]
I have discovered Paint and Photoshop =D.
| | |
| Ugh...I can't believe Akane! No wonder Faye is my favorite-est cousin ever!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, Faye and Hermione. You guys are the best. ta shi wo de hao peng you!
Anyways...I'm such a miracle worker! I've convinced Faye to try out for chaser; I helped her train and everything. And despite the doubt, she made call backs! I'm so proud of you, Faye. Hope you get a spot!
Better get started on homework,
Cho
